The first chatbot (called ELIZA) was developed over 50 years ago in the 1960s and since then chatbots have evolved and advanced tremendously.

Chatbot technology is impacting positively on the way businesses interact with customers and they have the ability to handle a wide range of tasks – from answering customer enquiries to taking Pizza orders, checking your bank account balance and even personalized marketing. Already these bots are getting to the point where users will find it difficult to determine whether or not they are interacting with a program or with a real customer service rep.


While chatbots cannot completely replace humans in customer service, (at least not anytime soon) understanding the concept and knowing how your business can benefit from the technology is important for staying competitive and relevant.
